ForeStClim project inaugurated with kick-off conference

A 3-day kick-off conference in Koblenz, Germany has marked the official beginning of the INTERREG IVB ForeStClim project. It has been the first possibility for the 21 partners to meet and exchange their views and ideas on this extraordinary venture.

Day 1 of the meeting was open to the public. Welcome addresses were given by Prof. Dr. Gebhard Schueler (Project Manager), Mrs. Jacqueline Kraege (State Secretary for Environment, Forestry and Consumer Protection Rheinland-Pfalz), Dr. Eberhard Schulte-Wissermann (Mayor of the town Koblenz) and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Klooß (Vice-Rector of the University Trier).

In the afternoon, the ForeStClim project team leaders gave an insight into current trends in climate modelling, presented tools which will enable forest science to adapt forests to climate change, and introduced innovative management strategies which will enable an effective and results-driven course of the project during the next 5 years.

Days 2 and 3 were used to identify milestones for the working teams involved. 111 delegates from Germany, France, Great Britain, Luxemburg and The Netherlands discussed within as well as between their respective groups about the immediate next steps to take. For further information, please have a look at the File Manager section of this website which contains all documents as resulting from this kick-off meeting.

Press coverage of the conference included TV interviews from Südwestrundfunk (SWR 4), Südwestfunk-Fernsehen (Rheinland-Pfalz-aktuell) and TV-Mittelrhein, as well as newspaper articles in RheinZeitung. Audio and video documents are available in our Multimedia section.
